An important message . . .
Dear Family and Friends with loved ones in the Wagener Cemetery,
In 1976, the Town of Wagener asked the Wagener Garden Club to assume the responsibility of caring for the Wagener Cemetery. We created the Wagener Garden Club Cemetery Trust Fund and solicited funds from persons in the Town of Wagener and surrounding community whose loved ones are buried in the cemetery. Over the years the interest in the trust fund had been enough to maintain the cemetery upkeep. However, the interest rates have dropped significantly and we have had to use the principal. The trust fund has been depleted. At this point the maintenance is being paid for by donations from family and friends as memorials for those who have passed away.
Last year the Wagener Garden Club was given a grant by the Department of Parks and Tourism to renovate the entrance and exit to the cemetery. The renovations were done and the new entrance was dedicated on May 30, 2010.
We have an excellent maintenance service who maintains the grounds. The cemetery looks attractive and is well cared for. We would like to keep it that way for our loved ones buried there.
We are asking families and friends to make donations for the upkeep of the cemetery. Our cost for the maintenance service alone is $175.00 per month. We would appreciate your consideration of our situation. Your donation will allow us to continue maintaining the cemetery as we have done for over 35 years.
